Filmmaker John Doyle delivers a contemporary drama about several residents of a small city in the Southern U.S. whose lives are changed by the arrival of a stranger with a controversial plan to save their decaying hometown. In the midst of today's challenging times, each of the colorful citizens of this close-knit North Carolina community -- from a once-wealthy tobacco heiress to the city's mayor to a local police officer -- will search for ways to reinvent themselves, their relationships and the very heart of their neighborhood. Supported by an ensemble cast, Main Street is the last produced screenplay from Horton Foote (To Kill a Mockingbird, Tender Mercies) who was the inaugural recipient of the Austin Film Festival’s Distinguished Screenwriter Award in 1995.
